Adolescent Inpatient Treatment

Adolescence is a time of development, transformation and self-discovery. It is a time when young people learn to be autonomous and responsible. For many young people, the challenges of teenage years, the stress of peer pressure and the natural changes in their body chemistry can intensify mental health issues, such as underlying depression, anxiety, mood instability, trauma and substance abuse or family conflicts.

The Adolescent Inpatient Program treats adolescents ages 12-17. The program is designed to provide a highly structured and supportive environment for adolescents so they can begin to identify these challenges, better handle frustrations and choose constructive, healthy alternatives.

Families are encouraged to be actively involved in the treatment process. Our team of professionals seeks to understand the family’s view of the patient’s situation and to provide education and explanation on the teen’s difficulties.

A comprehensive assessment, a thorough treatment plan, and an accurate understanding of available resources ensure that each adolescent treated at Fremont Hospital will be provided with the individualized care and services needed to follow the path towards recovery.

Our Adolescent Inpatient comprehensive treatment program includes:

  • A psychiatric evaluation by a child and adolescent psychiatrist
  • Psychoeducational groups (medication education, illness education, anger management, coping skills, etc.)
  • Psychosocial assessment
  • Nursing assessment
  • History and physical exam
  • Dietary consults
  • Psychological screening and/or testing (by referral)
  • Group therapy, family meetings
  • Pet therapy
  • Family education group held weekly to provide support and enhance treatment outcomes
  • Drug/alcohol education
  • Academic instruction led by a Fremont Unified School District teacher
  • Medication management
  • Multidisciplinary treatment planning

All school-age children are supported in keeping up with their school work while hospitalized by attending our daily, on-site school program, led by a Fremont Unified School District teacher. Additionally, they participate in a very structured treatment program that includes structured groups, skills groups, recreational therapy and family therapy.
