For Children 6-11

Child Inpatient Treatment

Fremont Hospital’s children’s program is for kids ages 6-11 who are experiencing acute symptoms related to mental illness, trauma, extreme conflict, and/or significant behavioral and developmental difficulties. Our program provides a supportive environment with around-the-clock care to stabilize the child’s symptoms. Our goal is to return the patient to their permanent family home or move them into a lower level of care with service providers near school and family connections.

Every child is unique, so we work to understand each family’s situation, concerns, and physician recommendations are incorporated into our care of the young person. While treatment plans are individualized based on the needs and of the patient, most will consist of the following components:

  • Assessment, crisis stabilization and intensive interventions
  • On-site child psychiatry and nursing services
  • Communication-focused integrative care
  • Individual, group, and family psychotherapy
  • Clinical case management to coordinate services with schools, primary care physicians, and community providers
  • Skill building and therapeutic groups for parents and youth
  • Linkages to community supports and services as part of the discharge plan.

Program Admission Criteria

We encourage patients, guardians and providers to contact us to schedule an assessment if they believe a child needs treatment. We review the following criteria for admission to the inpatient program:

  • The child has acute psychiatric symptoms or is referred for mental health assessment
  • Cannot be managed outside a 24-hour program and/or exhibits significant danger to self or others
  • Exhibits significant impairment in judgment, impulse control and/or cognitive/perceptual ability due to psychiatric problems
  • Has significantly impaired interpersonal functioning including with peer and family relationships
  • Experienced significant dysfunction in educational and/or occupational settings.
